Warrior's Retreat
Warrior's Retreat Mission

When we leave the military, many of us find ourselves in a strange in-between place. We are no longer soldiers, but we don't quite fit in as civilians either. It's challenging to "go back" and blend in with everyone else. The gap between us and civilians feels immense because they often don't understand what we've been through. This distance from the close bonds we had as soldiers to feeling completely alone as civilians can seem impossible to bridge. We know the statistics, and we feel the struggle deep down. Many of us have teetered on the edge between ending it all and pushing through another day. Historically, various cultures had rituals to welcome soldiers back from war, usually led by elders who had also experienced war. They understood that returning too soon, without a proper welcome, could negatively impact the veteran, their family, and the entire community.

Council for Combat Veterans with PTSD

The Council for Combat Veterans with PTSD offers a sanctuary for those who have served. Amidst their struggles, it provides a haven, a shared understanding, and a pathway to healing. Through empathy and camaraderie, the council fosters resilience, offering strategies to navigate the complexities of post-traumatic stress disorder. In this community, veterans find solace in shared experiences, breaking the isolation of their internal battles. Together, they redefine strength, not in the absence of scars but in the courage to confront them. The council becomes a beacon of hope, guiding warriors towards reclaiming their lives beyond the shadows of war's aftermath.

At VFW Post 3885 in Erlangen, Germany, we are committed to supporting those who have bravely served our country. Our veterans have faced unimaginable challenges, and many continue to battle the invisible wounds of war. This is why we have initiated the Warrior's Retreat program—a crucial opportunity for combat veterans to find solace, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversations about the complexities of PTSD.

Your donation to our post directly contributes to these vital retreats. It is more than a financial contribution; it is a lifeline for those who have sacrificed so much for our freedoms. Your support helps cover accommodation, counseling services, therapeutic activities, and more, creating an environment where veterans can feel understood, supported, and heard.

Every contribution, no matter the size, makes an incredible difference. It is a chance to give back to those who have given everything for us. Your generosity paves the way for healing, connection, and empowerment for our veterans, allowing them to navigate their journey toward recovery with the support of their peers and professionals.

Together, let's honor our heroes by providing them with the retreats they deserve. Your donation isn't just a gift; it's an investment in the well-being and resilience of those who have sacrificed for our nation. Join us in making a tangible, positive impact in the lives of our combat veterans. Your support amplifies our mission of serving those who have served us. Thank you for considering being part of this essential cause.

Council for Wives of Combat Veterans

Council is both an ancient and contemporary method of fostering connection, deeply rooted in nature and cultures worldwide. It embodies the essence of genuine community, where every voice holds value. This practice encourages us to embrace our differences, discover our own voices, and engage in deep listening. In our current times, the significance of council is more pronounced than ever.

Council enhances attentive listening and honest expression, unlocking new insights, wisdom, and healing. Its application is vital in education, families, therapy, and any group setting. Drawing inspiration from indigenous traditions, council nurtures authentic connections and fortifies communities.

The introduction of council in schools, businesses, prisons, and other settings has demonstrated its profound impact on communication and relationships globally. This is especially important in our diverse world today.

For the wives of combat veterans, council is particularly crucial. The unique challenges faced by these women, including the emotional and psychological toll of their spouses' experiences, require a supportive community where they can share their stories and find solace. Council provides a safe space for these wives to express their fears, hopes, and struggles, fostering mutual understanding and resilience. Through council, they can build stronger connections with others who understand their journey, promoting healing and solidarity within this special community.
