Blain Bertrand
Commander - Army

Blain's life has been a series of dedicated service and passionate pursuits, marked by bravery, resilience, and a commitment to community. His journey commenced as a 12F combat engineer, maneuvering through the challenging terrain of the US Army from '89 to '93. It began in Fort Leonardwood, Missouri, where he honed his skills in Basic and AIT before a swift transfer to Germany—just two weeks following the fall of the Berlin Wall.

His time in Fuerth was abruptly interrupted by the eruption of the Persian Gulf War. Deployed to Saudi Arabia, Blain found himself steering his AVLM through the arid landscapes, crossing into Iraq and heading toward Basra. The ground war, though brief at 100 hours, was intense, with Blain and the 1st Armored Division pivotal in ejecting Saddam Hussein's forces from Kuwait. His role in this liberation earned him a constellation of medals, including the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, and Southwest Asia Service Medal with three Bronze Stars.

Post-service, Blain charted a new course, leveraging his passion for golf by becoming a PGA Golf Professional. For three decades, he shared his expertise in a foreign land, enriching lives through the sport before eventually retiring in 2022.

Retirement didn't slow Blain down; instead, he pivoted towards another form of service, this time within the VFW at Post 3885 in Erlangen. Joining in 2018, he swiftly ascended through the ranks, serving as the post service officer and senior vice commander before assuming the mantle of Commander in July. Under his leadership, the post burgeoned, exceeding 100 members for the first time in its history.

Amidst his diverse endeavors, Blain embodies the ethos of #stillserving, exemplifying a life dedicated to duty, community, and unwavering commitment to making a difference wherever he treads.
